Fornos de Algodres fire brought under control after reignitions

A rural fire in Fornos de Algodres, located in the Guarda district of Portugal, has been reported as dominated after experiencing multiple reignitions. Wind and rising temperatures complicated the efforts of emergency services. At various stages of the operation, hundreds of personnel, dozens of vehicles, and several aerial means were deployed to control the flames and manage the perimeter.

In a separate preventive measure, the Municipality of Santa Cruz has prohibited the use of all stoves in the Parque de Merendas dos Remédios due to high fire risk levels predicted by the Fire Weather Index (FWI). Local civil protection authorities have also advised the public to avoid activities that could act as ignition sources, such as fireworks or pyrotechnics, to protect natural heritage and property.
