Industrial landmarks in Łódź and Warsaw face demolition

Significant industrial structures are being removed from the skylines of two Polish cities. In Łódź, the iconic chimneys of the former EC-2 heating plant on Wróblewskiego Street were demolished on Tuesday, October 20. The controlled demolition utilized 150 kilograms of explosives and required the preparation of 1,500 holes. The operation necessitated the evacuation of residents from nearby buildings on Różana Street for safety reasons.

In Warsaw, Orlen Termika has announced the upcoming dismantling of the 200-meter E3 chimney at the Siekierki heating plant. Unlike the explosive demolition in Łódź, the E3 chimney will be removed mechanically by a demolition robot that will cut and crush the structure from the top down. This process is scheduled to begin in early November 2026 and is expected to conclude by April 2027. The decision to dismantle the structure, which has stood since 1974, is based on its age and technical condition, having been replaced by a much shorter, modern steel emitter.
