Industrial Light & Magic announces new VR experiences for Meta

At Meta Connect 2026, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) announced two new immersive storytelling experiences designed for Meta VR hardware, including Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S.

“National Geographic: Beyond” utilizes stereoscopic 180-degree footage captured on location in Africa to place viewers among the continent's wildlife and landscapes. This project is a collaboration between ILM and National Geographic aimed at bringing audiences closer to the natural world through emerging technology.

“Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM” serves as a hub for VR-enhanced feature films. While the original movie remains the centerpiece, ILM’s technology allows environmental effects from key scenes to expand beyond the traditional screen boundaries and into the viewer’s surroundings. Initial titles for this experience include Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: A New Hope” and Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War”.
