Industrial production prices rise 5.8% in July

The Industrial Producer Price Index (IPPI) rose by 5.8% in July compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). This represents an acceleration of 0.7 percentage points over the previous month.

The increase was primarily driven by the energy and intermediate goods sectors. The energy group contributed 2.6 percentage points to the total variation, fueled by a 15.8% year-on-year increase in energy prices. Within this category, rising petroleum product prices and a significant acceleration in electricity costs were the main factors.

Intermediate goods contributed 2.3 percentage points to the index. Other sectors, including consumer goods and investment goods, saw more modest positive contributions of 0.6 and 0.3 percentage points, respectively. On a monthly basis, the IPPI increased by 0.8%, largely due to the rise in electricity production prices.
