Industrial robot count reaches record 5 million globally

The number of active industrial robots in factories worldwide has reached a record 5,079,000 in 2025, according to data from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). This represents a 9% increase from the previous year. New installations globally exceeded 600,000 units, marking an 11% rise in annual deployments.

China continues to dominate the global market, accounting for 59% of all installations. The country increased its annual installations by 20%, adding 354,000 new robots to production lines, with domestic manufacturers capturing a 55% market share. In contrast, Japan saw a 19% decline in its robot count, dropping to 36,219 units and falling to third place globally behind the United States.

Other regional developments include South Korea maintaining its position as the fourth largest market with 30,000 annual installations, with growth expected in the automotive sector through 2028. India also showed significant momentum, increasing installations by 15% to 10,500 units, maintaining a high average annual growth rate of 27% between 2020 and 2025.
