Industrial shutdown in Bosnia and railway fire halt in Serbia

Nove Željezare Zenica issued a statement clarifying that the high furnace (Visoka peć) has been out of operation since 23 April 2026 and is currently undergoing routine technological maintenance, not a new shutdown. Production has been halted for three months while the company prepares for future investments, including a new electrolytic furnace aimed at greener steel production in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In Serbia, railway traffic on the Belgrade–Novi Sad line was suspended after a fire broke out on low vegetation near the track between Grmovac and Šimanovci. The blaze, covering about three hectares, forced a train from Belgrade to Novi Sad to stop near Nova Pazova, and a train heading the opposite direction to stop near Beška. Firefighters are managing the incident, and a drone is being used to assess the situation.
