Industrialized construction and timber systems drive sector transformation

The construction industry is undergoing a shift toward industrialization, moving work from traditional job sites to controlled manufacturing environments to improve precision and optimize execution times. This transition emphasizes the use of timber systems, such as light frame construction and engineered wood products, which allow components to be designed and manufactured to specific dimensions before arriving at the site.

In Argentina, the Wood Construction Institute (ICM), an initiative of the Argentine Federation of the Wood Industry and Affiliates (FAIMA), is promoting these technologies to architects and engineers to modernize the sector.

In Spain, industrialized construction is emerging as a potential solution to rising housing costs, which saw a 12.2% year-on-year increase in the second quarter of 2026 according to the National Statistics Institute. Companies like Sodo are offering prefabricated timber housing models that allow for customization and thermal insulation. While this model redefines prefabricated housing through the assembly of off-site modules and panels, challenges such as land availability, financing, and administrative procedures continue to influence its widespread adoption.
