IndyCar IR-28 chassis undergoes stress testing at Sebring

Reigning NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Alex Palou has begun testing the new IR-28 ‘Spec’ chassis at Sebring International Raceway in Florida. This marks the first time the chassis has been tested outside of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Sebring was selected for its bumpy asphalt and concrete surfaces to simulate the conditions of temporary street circuits. The goal of the testing is to stress-test the durability of components and identify potential mechanical failures before the car is introduced at the start of the 2028 season. Palou noted that recent design adjustments have already improved driver cooling and braking based on previous feedback.

Alexander Rossi is scheduled to continue testing duties at the circuit following Palou’s initial laps. Officials from INDYCAR and Dallara are overseeing a comprehensive checklist of system and performance evaluations.
