IndyCar announces first European race in Barcelona for 2027
The NTT IndyCar Series has officially announced a multi-year agreement to host a race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain, marking the championship's return to Europe for the first time since 2007. The event is scheduled for July 18, 2027, and will serve as the series' first race outside of North America since 2013.
The move is strategically timed to coincide with the circuit's rotation with Spa-Francorchamps, as Barcelona will not host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2027. The race holds significant personal importance for five-time series champion Alex Palou, a Barcelona native who competes for Chip Ganassi Racing.
Mark Miles, President and CEO of Penske Entertainment Corp., described the announcement as a “monumental day” for the sport, noting the goal of introducing the series to European fans. The 2027 season will consist of 17 races, with the Barcelona event positioned as a key summer fixture.
