IndyCar to race in Barcelona starting 2027
The IndyCar Series has reached an agreement with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to host races in Montmeló for ten seasons, beginning in 2027. This marks the championship's return to Europe after a twenty-year absence.
Mark Miles, President and CEO of Penske Entertainment, stated that while the series intends to grow internationally, it does not aim to replicate the global model of Formula 1. Instead, the series seeks to maintain its unique identity and logistical structure while selectively expanding beyond North America.
The inaugural Barcelona Grand Prix is scheduled for the weekend of July 16–18, 2027. Local driver Alex Palou is cited as a key figure in securing the deal, serving as a primary draw for the European market and spectators.
