Barcelona to host IndyCar races starting in 2027

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has reached an agreement to host the IndyCar Series starting in July 2027. This multi-year deal aims to compensate for the circuit's reduced presence on the Formula 1 calendar, as the venue will now alternate hosting F1 Grands Prix with Spa-Francorchamps, with scheduled returns in 2028, 2030, and 2032.

This move marks a significant international expansion for IndyCar, representing its first race outside of North America since the series competed in São Paulo in 2013. A major driver behind the negotiations is five-time IndyCar champion Alex Palou, a native of Catalonia, whose local popularity is expected to provide a strong regional draw for the event.

The agreement involved extensive negotiations led by the Generalitat de Catalunya and Fira Circuit. While logistics regarding the international transport of equipment and vehicles remain a complex factor, the circuit's established infrastructure is expected to facilitate the series' European debut.
