INE approves 2027 budget proposal for political party financing
The National Electoral Institute (INE) has approved a preliminary budget proposal for the 2027 fiscal year, which includes approximately 10.84 billion pesos in public financing for national political parties and independent candidates. This funding is intended to support activities for the upcoming federal elections, which will include the renewal of the Chamber of Deputies.
The proposed budget for political parties is divided into several categories: approximately 7.88 billion pesos for permanent ordinary activities, 2.36 billion pesos for campaign activities, and specific allocations for other electoral obligations. Newly formed parties, Paz and Somos México, are projected to receive 157.58 million pesos each, representing 2 percent of the total ordinary financing. The remaining 7.56 billion pesos will be distributed among the six major national parties based on a constitutional formula of 30 percent equal distribution and 70 percent proportional to previous voting results.
Additionally, the INE has proposed a total budget of approximately 31.43 billion pesos to cover the overall organization and development of the 2027 electoral processes. This includes a precautionary fund of roughly 4.74 billion pesos designated for the potential organization of a popular consultation or a mandate revocation. The proposal will be sent to the Federal Executive for inclusion in the Federation's Expenditure Budget Project.
