INE warns of unmanageable 2027 election cycle in Mexico

The National Electoral Institute (INE) has warned that the 2027 election cycle could be ‘practically unmanageable’ due to the simultaneous occurrence of federal, state, municipal, and judicial elections.

Electoral counselor Frida Denisse Gómez Puga highlighted significant operational, logistical, and budgetary challenges. The institute expects to serve a projected voter list exceeding 102 million citizens, surpassing previous presidential election figures. To manage this, the INE anticipates needing to install more than 176,000 polling stations and recruiting approximately 2.5 million citizens to serve as election officials.

The 2027 process will include the complete renewal of the Chamber of Deputies and the election of 17 governorships, necessitating a massive territorial deployment and increased human and financial resources across Mexico.
