INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan to keynote GOCOP conference

Professor Joash Amupitan, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the 10th Annual Conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) in Lagos. The conference, themed “2027 Elections: Trust, Transparency and Shared Responsibilities,” will take place on October 8, 2026.

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, Amupitan’s role is central to discussions regarding the credibility of the electoral process and the responsibilities of various stakeholders, including political parties, the media, and civil society. Amupitan, a Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, assumed his role as INEC Chairman in October 2025.

His tenure has been marked by public scrutiny regarding institutional trust and allegations of partisanship. Recent concerns have included legal disputes over commission legitimacy and questions regarding the security of INEC data and voter information protocols.
