Educational reforms: Mexico debates cell phone use while Dominican Republic secures teachers

Educational authorities in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Argentina are implementing various infrastructure and policy changes. In Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum and the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) are preparing a national consultation for August 24-25. Over one million teachers across 200,000 schools will be asked for their input on regulating cell phone and social media use in classrooms to address mental health and distraction concerns. This follows existing regulations in 16 Mexican states.

In the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Education announced that teacher staffing is 100% secured for the 2026-2027 school year. Additionally, Dr. Dinorah García Romero has been appointed as the new rector of ISFODOSU.

In Argentina, Neuquén authorities are investing over 13.4 billion pesos into the construction of a new technical school (EPET 24) in Rincón de los Sauces, designed to accommodate 750 students. Meanwhile, the University of Guadalajara in Mexico is piloting the 'Presente' program to encourage digital disconnection and face-to-face interaction among high school students.
