İnegöl Mayor visits restaurant flagged for food fraud

Alper Taban, the AK Party Mayor of İnegöl, has drawn public attention following a visit to Gül Pide, a local business recently flagged by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for food fraud.

The Ministry's inspection, published on September 23, 2026, determined that the establishment used chicken meat in products that were supposed to contain beef. In response to the findings, Gül Pide owner Mezher Salacan claimed the presence of chicken was due to cross-contamination, suggesting that the butcher used the same knife for both types of meat.

While the business shared an analysis report mentioning a 1% figure, critics noted this value likely refers to the detection threshold of the analytical method rather than the actual percentage of chicken meat in the product. Despite the controversy, the establishment has continued its operations, and the business expressed gratitude to Mayor Taban for his support on social media.
