INEM reaches agreement to cancel emergency technician strike

The President of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), Luís Cabral, announced an agreement between the Portuguese government, INEM, and the Union of Pre-Hospital Emergency Technicians (STEPH). This agreement has resulted in the cancellation of a two-day strike previously scheduled for this month.

Cabral stated that the understanding reached during meetings at the Ministry of Health helped bridge initially “disparate” positions and clarified how upcoming institutional changes will be implemented. These changes are part of an ongoing restructuring process for INEM, informed by a report from an Independent Technical Commission. The primary goal of the agreement is to improve medical emergency response and service quality for the Portuguese population.
