INEM to integrate nurses into SNS 24 call triage

The National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) has announced a new operational model for the Urgent Patient Orientation Centers (CODU). Under this new system, nurses will begin handling and triaging calls forwarded from the SNS 24 helpline.

Previously, this responsibility was managed by pre-hospital emergency technicians (TEPH). While INEM acknowledged the essential experience and knowledge provided by TEPH professionals, the transition aims to reorganize CODU operations to better differentiate and complement the skills of various professionals.

Nurses have undergone specific training in the Manchester Triage System to support this transition. The integration of nursing staff is intended to strengthen the clinical component of assessments and optimize the use of available emergency resources. The new model is expected to be implemented shortly, once the necessary technical adjustments are finalized.
