Infant Death Triggers Autopsy and Investigation at Sora Hospital in Italy

A two‑month‑old baby from Balsorano died after being admitted to the Santissima Trinità Hospital in Sora, province of Frosinone. The child had first been taken to the emergency department of Avezzano Hospital for severe gastrointestinal symptoms and was transferred to Sora, where she died a few hours after admission.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Cassino opened a criminal investigation file against unknown persons, ordered an autopsy of the infant and seized the body and all medical records. The inquiry is being coordinated by Prosecutor Carlo Fucci and public minister Chiara Fiorandelli, with support from the State Police.

The local health authority, ASL of Frosinone, announced an internal clinical audit to review the care pathway and verify compliance with hospital procedures, while expressing condolences to the family and the hospital staff.
