Infant diagnosed with rare retinoblastoma eye cancer

A four-and-a-half-month-old infant, Oliver, has been diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare and life-threatening form of eye cancer. His mother, Olivia Hannaford, initially suspected the child might simply need glasses after noticing his right eye did not focus properly. However, the discovery of a white reflection in his eye during feeding led to immediate medical intervention.

Following examinations at Alder Hey Hospital, doctors confirmed the presence of a tumor. Oliver has since undergone intensive treatment, including four rounds of intra-arterial chemotherapy and supplementary laser treatments. His chemotherapy concluded in late October 2025, and he will continue to undergo follow-up evaluations every six weeks.

The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust is using this case to urge parents to remain vigilant for warning signs, specifically noting the appearance of a white reflection or cloudiness in a child's eye.
