Infant dies by drowning in Presidente Prudente river

A 10-month-old baby died by drowning in the Buriti River in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, after being taken to a dam by her mother alongside two older siblings, aged 7 and 9.

The mother reportedly took the children to the area under the pretext of fishing and walking. While the two older children managed to escape and seek help from a nearby worker, the infant died at the scene. The mother has been taken to the police, and the Tutelary Council has intervened to protect the surviving children, who have been placed in emergency care.

Investigations by the Civil Police are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the death. The family was reportedly already under the supervision of the Tutelary Council and had received mental health services through the municipal network.
