Infant found abandoned at Ermita de Suyapa in Tegucigalpa

A three-day-old infant was found abandoned near the Ermita de Suyapa in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The newborn was discovered wrapped in a blanket alongside a handwritten note attributed to her mother.

In the message, the mother reportedly expressed extreme distress, stating that she left the child to prevent her from suffering due to their precarious living conditions. The note claimed the infant had been sleeping on the floor for three days because the mother lacked a roof over her head. The baby was born on the night of Wednesday, September 9.

Officers from the Metropolitan Prevention Unit No. 4 (UMEP-4) and Regional No. 5 responded to the alert, secured the infant, and provided medical attention. Authorities have initiated procedures to ensure the child's protection and are coordinating with the Secretariat of Children, Adolescence, and Family to evaluate the situation.
