Infanta Sofia uses civil name to study in Paris
Infanta Sofia, the youngest daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, has begun her second year of university studies in Paris. To maintain a sense of normalcy and avoid royal protocol, she has been using her civil name, Sofia de Borbón Ortiz, rather than her royal title during her academic pursuits.
Boris Walbaum, the founder and president of Forward College, confirmed that the 19-year-old student applied for her degree in Political Science and International Relations using her legal name. Walbaum noted that Sofia underwent the exact same admission and interview processes as any other candidate and specifically requested to be treated as an ordinary student without special treatment or royal privileges.
After completing her first year at the institution's Lisbon campus, Sofia is now continuing her studies at the college's Paris campus and the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris. Walbaum mentioned that the use of the surname Ortiz was so discreet that he did not immediately associate it with Queen Letizia during the initial stages of her application.
