Ordem dos Médicos calls for integrated clinical records to ensure patient safety

The Ordem dos Médicos (OM) has called for the urgent implementation of an integrated and interoperable clinical record system to ensure patient safety. This advocacy comes on World Patient Safety Day, an initiative promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Carlos Cortes, the president of the OM, stated that such a system is essential to allow doctors to access relevant clinical information and updated medication details regardless of where a patient is treated. This is particularly critical for managing non-communicable diseases, such as cardiovascular and respiratory illnesses, cancer, and diabetes, which often require coordinated care across multiple professionals and services.
