Infineon and Enphase partner on 900V GaN bidirectional switches
Infineon has announced it will supply the world’s first 900V monolithic Gallium Nitride (GaN) bidirectional switches (BDS) to Enphase Energy. These devices are intended for use in Enphase’s solid-state transformer (SST) power modules.
Solid-state transformers are considered essential components for next-generation power distribution architectures. While Silicon Carbide (SiC) is currently common in high-voltage systems, the new 900V CoolGaN technology offers high-frequency operation and integrated bidirectional switching. This allows for more efficient and compact power conversion, which is particularly beneficial for emerging applications such as AI data centers.
Enphase led the development and system-level demonstration, building on a decade of research into GaN-based power conversion. The two companies previously collaborated on 650V GaN BDS technology for Enphase IQ9 Microinverters. The 900V devices have passed testing and are currently being integrated into the development of Enphase’s IQ SST product.
