Infineon supplies SiC chips to Fox ESS for energy storage

Infineon has announced a supply agreement with renewable energy provider Fox ESS to provide Silicon Carbide (SiC) power semiconductors. The partnership aims to improve the efficiency of residential energy storage systems (ESS).

By utilizing CoolSiC MOSFETs 1200 V G2 in a Q-DPAK package, Fox ESS has reportedly reduced switching losses by 70 percent. This technology allows the PQ3-Ultra energy storage system to reach a peak photovoltaic inverter efficiency of up to 98.78 percent in grid-tied operations, alongside a peak battery charge/discharge efficiency of up to 98.47 percent.

The top-side-cooled Q-DPAK package is designed to optimize thermal performance, power density, and system efficiency while supporting improved PCB layouts compared to conventional bottom-side-cooled designs.
