Inflation climbs in Ghana and Nigeria as prices surge

Ghana’s consumer price inflation rose for the third straight month, reaching 5.3% in June 2026, up from a 3.7% record low earlier in the year. The rise accompanies continued economic reforms, including the government’s 24‑Hour Economy programme and statements from Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama that the country is rebounding from its recent crisis.

In Nigeria, United Capital Plc projected headline inflation at 15.95% for June 2026, a marginal increase from May’s 15.93%. The forecast cites higher tomato and yam prices amid seasonal supply constraints, while rice and beans prices fell and fuel costs eased as global crude oil prices dropped by more than 20%. The firm advised the Central Bank of Nigeria to keep policy rates unchanged at its July monetary policy meeting.
