Inflation drives up cost of living across Spain

Inflation continues to impact household budgets across Spain, with significant increases in the cost of living reported in regions such as Galicia and Salamanca. In Galicia, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has risen by 24% compared to 2021 levels, meaning that what cost 100 euros in 2021 now requires 124 euros. Recent data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) showed a 4.1% year-on-year increase in July.

Food costs remain a primary driver of financial pressure. In Salamanca, essential items like coffee, bananas, lemons, and eggs have seen sharp price hikes, while fresh products like meat and fish continue to weigh heavily on family budgets. The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) estimated that a basic basket of goods, including food, hygiene, and household products, cost an average of 6,259 euros annually in 2025, or approximately 522 euros per month.
