Inflation rates decelerate in Oriental Mindoro and Cebu provinces

Inflation rates in several Philippine provinces showed signs of deceleration in July, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.

In Oriental Mindoro, the inflation rate dropped to 7.4 percent in July from 8 percent in June. The decline was primarily driven by slower price increases in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, which contributed 46.7 percent to the overall rate. Food and non-alcoholic beverages were the second-largest contributor at 22.7 percent. For the bottom 30 percent income group, inflation eased to 10.7 percent.

Cebu province also experienced a slowdown, with headline inflation decreasing to 10.9 percent from 12.4 percent in June, though it remains in double digits. Food and non-alcoholic beverages were the primary driver of this deceleration, accounting for 72.8 percent of the downtrend. While most food categories like vegetables, fruits, and seafood saw price cooling, rice prices in Cebu City experienced an acceleration, rising 20.5 percentage points from June.
