Inflation rises in Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire during September 2026
Consumer prices in Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire both experienced upward trends in September 2026, driven largely by food and energy costs.
In Senegal, consumer prices rose by 1.1% compared to the previous month. This increase was primarily fueled by a 2% rise in food and non-alcoholic beverage prices, particularly leafy vegetables which saw a 23.9% surge due to seasonal supply shortages. Additionally, housing, water, electricity, and gas costs increased by 1%, with electricity prices rising 3.8% amid high demand. Fuel prices also contributed to a 0.2% increase in the transport sector.
In Côte d'Ivoire, annual inflation accelerated to 1.6% in September, up from 1.2% in August. The transport sector rose by 5.5%, driven by a 9% spike in gasoline prices and a 7.4% increase in diesel. Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices grew by 1.9%, with significant increases in fresh and dried fish (12% and 14.2% respectively) and tropical fruits (11.2%). Conversely, the information and communication sector saw a 2% contraction, aided by a 3.3% drop in mobile communication services.
