Inflation spikes challenge businesses as Greek labour market tightens
Inflation remains well above target levels in most major economies despite successive interest‑rate hikes by central banks. The U.S. Federal Reserve, for example, has struggled to bring its rate of 4.1 % down to the 2 % goal, raising concerns about a prolonged period of high prices and resilient growth that could force a hard landing.
In Greece, employers report growing pressure from rising labour costs and difficulty filling vacancies. Surveys show that around 35 % of workers plan to change jobs within a year, attracted by higher pay and better benefits. Companies are therefore compelled to raise wages and improve conditions to retain staff, especially in sectors such as tourism, hospitality and manufacturing where dozens of thousands of positions remain vacant.
