Inflation trends vary across North Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Serbia
Inflationary trends across several Balkan and European regions show varying trajectories. In North Macedonia, the VLEN coalition reported that annual inflation fell to 2.3 percent in July, down from 4.5 percent two years ago. They attributed this stabilization to consumer protection measures and reduced excise duties on derivatives.
In Bulgaria, Eurostat data indicates that annual inflation slowed to 4.4 percent in July, down from 5.2 percent in June. Despite this decrease, Bulgaria remains among the countries with the highest price growth in the EU, significantly above the Eurozone average of 2.9 percent. High costs in the summer tourism sector, including hotels and international flights, have contributed to these figures.
In Serbia, Governor Jorgovanka Tabaković announced that annual inflation dropped to 1.9 percent in July. This decline was primarily driven by a significant decrease in food prices due to a strong harvest of fruits and vegetables. The Serbian economy also saw GDP growth accelerate to 3.6 percent in the second quarter.
