Henry Gibbs Recovers After Shark Attack in Fiji
New Zealand content creator Henry Gibbs was attacked by a gray reef shark while spearfishing off the coast of Fiji on 18‑19 July 2026. The shark performed a “death roll” and bit his right calf, causing a deep wound.
Companions pulled Gibbs from the water and administered first aid before he was taken to a hospital in Fiji. The following day he was flown to Auckland, New Zealand, where doctors performed four surgeries and a skin‑graft to reconstruct the leg. Gibbs says he expects a full recovery and has shared the underwater footage, which quickly went viral on social media. He expressed no resentment toward the shark, noting it was acting naturally.
The incident sparked widespread online attention, highlighting both the dangers of shark encounters and the influencer’s decision to document the event.
