Mato Grosso drug‑trafficking network dismantled in Operation Caput

The Polícia Civil of Mato Grosso launched Operation Caput, executing 18 judicial orders—including 10 preventive arrests and eight search‑and‑seizure warrants—simultaneously in five municipalities: Santo Antônio do Leste, Barra do Garças, Rondonópolis, Cuiabá and Várzea Grande. The operation targeted a criminal group involved in drug trafficking that was coordinated from inside the Penitenciária Major PM Eldo Sá Corrêa, known as “Mata Grande.” Although incarcerated, the suspect continued to direct the network, which linked the five cities. Police seized narcotics, weapons, cash, documents and electronic devices, and arrested several members, aiming to disrupt the organization and continue the investigation under the Delegacia de Homicídios e Delitos Gerais of Primavera do Leste.

The operation reflects a broader effort by Mato Grosso authorities to combat organized crime and drug‑related violence across the state.
