Influencer Paula Simões Assisi arrested in 'Ndrangheta cocaine trafficking probe
Influencer Paula Simões Assisi has been arrested as part of Operation Eredità, a joint investigation by Brazilian and Italian authorities targeting the 'Ndrangheta mafia's international cocaine trafficking operations. Authorities allege that Assisi took over the criminal leadership following the 2019 arrest of her husband, Patrick Assisi, and father-in-law, Nicola Assisi. Investigators claim the organization has been involved in at least 11 cocaine seizures totaling over 4.6 tons, with Assisi allegedly negotiating shipments of approximately 400 kilograms to Europe via the Port of Paranaguá.
In a separate incident, a 36-year-old Brazilian woman was arrested in Bali, Indonesia, after customs officials discovered approximately 4 kilograms of liquid cocaine concealed within shampoo and hygiene product bottles. The woman reportedly claimed she was offered $50,000 to transport the drugs. Under Indonesian law, drug trafficking carries severe penalties, including life imprisonment.
