Vietnam Ministry of Health issues warnings amid rising influenza cases

The Vietnam Ministry of Health has issued guidance on eight preventive measures as seasonal influenza cases increase across various localities. In Hanoi, health authorities report approximately 200 to 300 hospitalizations due to Influenza A every week.

Influenza is an acute infectious disease caused by viruses that circulate year-round in Vietnam, with peaks often occurring during seasonal transitions or colder months. While most cases are mild, the virus poses significant risks to high-risk groups, including children under five, adults over 65, pregnant women, and individuals with underlying conditions such as cardiovascular disease, chronic lung disease, or diabetes. Complications can include pneumonia and respiratory failure.

Health officials emphasize that influenza spreads primarily through respiratory droplets when infected individuals cough, sneeze, or speak. Recommended preventive actions include wearing masks in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces, frequent handwashing with soap or sanitizer, covering the mouth and nose when coughing, and maintaining personal hygiene. Vaccination is also advised, particularly for vulnerable populations.
