Influenza A poses risk of pneumonia complications in Vietnam

Influenza A is posing health risks to both children and adults in Vietnam, with medical professionals warning of severe complications such as pneumonia. At Van Don Regional General Hospital, a 26-month-old child was recently treated for Influenza A that had progressed to pneumonia after experiencing high fever, coughing, and fatigue.

While many cases of seasonal flu resolve within a few days, doctors emphasize that young children, the elderly, and individuals with underlying health conditions are at higher risk for respiratory failure and other serious complications. Symptoms typically include sudden fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, and respiratory issues like coughing and nasal congestion.

Medical experts, including specialists from Gia Dinh General Hospital, note that even physically active individuals can contract the virus if preventative measures are not followed. They advise against relying solely on home remedies like sweating through exercise or steam, noting there is no evidence these methods kill the virus. Patients are urged to seek medical attention if they experience prolonged high fever, difficulty breathing, or lethargy.
