Influenza vaccination priority for high-risk groups

Infectious disease specialist Dr. Mino Moharez has emphasized the importance of influenza vaccination to prevent severe illness, particularly for high-risk groups. Priority for vaccination should be given to individuals with underlying medical conditions, pregnant women, and children, though other members of the community may also be vaccinated if supplies permit.

Dr. Moharez recommends receiving the vaccine before the onset of the cold season to ensure adequate immunity during the winter months. Regarding children, she noted that vaccination should be administered based on age, medical conditions, and health system recommendations.

Additionally, the specialist addressed the current rise in respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses, noting that while many COVID-19 cases are currently mild and manageable with symptomatic treatment, severe cases still require medical supervision or hospitalization. She also highlighted that large international gatherings, such as the Hajj pilgrimage, can facilitate the transmission of respiratory viruses as travelers return to their home countries.
