Infobip launches SIM-based verification to replace SMS OTPs
Infobip, a global cloud communications platform, has launched a SIM-based number verification solution designed to replace traditional SMS One-Time Passwords (OTP). The new technology utilizes the cryptographic capabilities of SIM cards and mobile networks to verify identity in the background, eliminating the need for users to manually enter codes.
The solution aims to address rising security threats such as SIM swapping and phishing, as well as increasing SMS routing costs and regulatory pressures. By aggregating network APIs, Infobip connects telecommunications operators with enterprises through a single integration. This allows mobile network operators to monetize authentication services while providing businesses with a more secure, seamless, and scalable authentication method that works on both cellular and Wi-Fi networks.
Matija Ražem, Chief Commercial Telecom Officer at Infobip, stated that operators already possess one of the most reliable digital identity assets in the SIM card and the network authentication process. The initiative is intended to help operators commercialize this capability more rapidly.
