Infonavit Director Octavio Romero Oropeza restricts access to patrimonial declaration

Octavio Romero Oropeza, the Director General of Infonavit, has classified his patrimonial declaration as confidential, preventing public access to his income, properties, bank accounts, and salary. The institute’s Transparency Committee supported this decision through resolutions issued in July 2025 and July 2026, noting that the official declined to make the information public.

The reservation covers a wide range of assets, including real estate, vehicles, investments, jewelry, artwork, pensions, royalties, and dividends, as well as the assets of his spouse and dependents. Consequently, his financial data is unavailable on the Declaranet platform, and his monthly salary cannot be viewed via the Nómina Transparente system.

Critics, including former Inai commissioner Julieta Del Río Venegas, have argued that withholding the entire declaration violates the constitutional principle of maximum publicity. While federal law requires public servants to submit annual declarations, legal debates continue regarding the extent to which specific data can be reserved for privacy reasons.
