Infonavit targets 700,000 contracted homes by 2026

Infonavit has reported that 533,000 housing units have been contracted through the 'Programa de Vivienda para el Bienestar' as of August, with 223,000 of those currently under construction. Director Octavio Romero Oropeza stated that the organization aims to contract an additional 167,000 units by the end of the year, targeting a total of 700,000 contracted homes by the close of 2026. This progress is part of a larger goal to construct 1.2 million homes during the current six-year term.

Since October 2024, the institution has also placed 700,000 mortgage credits and over 600,000 financing agreements for home improvements. Economic data from INEGI supports this trend, showing that building activity in Mexico grew by 2.5% through July, outperforming the national industrial activity growth rate of 0.4%.

Workers can manage their housing savings, accumulated through employer contributions of 5% of the integrated salary, via the 'Mi Cuenta Infonavit' platform. These funds can be used to supplement mortgage financing to increase the total amount available for purchasing a home.
