Information Processing Society of Japan opens informatics contest for students

The Information Processing Society of Japan has announced that applications for the 9th Informatics Research Contest for Junior and Senior High School Students will open on September 1, 2026. The competition invites teams of up to four students, including junior college students (up to the 3rd year), to present poster works summarizing their achievements in various informatics fields.

Research themes include problem-solving through information technology, information ethics and security, programming, communication networks, data science, and information design. The contest process begins with online regional block competitions held between December 12 and December 20, 2026, covering five regions: Hokkaido/Tohoku, Kanto, Tokai/Hokuriku, Kansai, and Chugoku/Shikoku/Kyushu.

Successful teams from the regional rounds will advance to the national competition, scheduled for March 6, 2027, at Meijo University in Aichi Prefecture. Participation is free, though entry must be completed by October 30, 2026. At least one member of each participating team must be a Junior Member of the Information Processing Society of Japan.
