Research explores 2,4-dichlorophenol adsorption using coconut coir fibre
Researchers have investigated the adsorption behaviour of 2,4-dichlorophenol using coconut coir fibre as a low-cost bioadsorbent. The study examined both unmodified fibre and fibre treated with sodium chlorite to determine adsorption capacity, equilibrium time, kinetics, and thermodynamics under various physicochemical conditions.
Findings indicate that the modified fibre demonstrated higher adsorption efficacy at pH 8.00 compared to pH 2.00. In basic media, equilibrium was reached within thirty minutes for both types of adsorbents, with removal rates of 78% for unmodified and 80% for modified coconut coir fibres. The adsorption process was identified as endothermic, and FT-IR spectra suggested the phenomenon is physisorption.
