Infotainment systems drive 25% of new vehicle problems
A JD Power study indicates that multimedia and infotainment systems are the primary source of problems in new vehicles. Despite overall improvements in automotive quality year-over-year, entertainment systems remain a persistent issue, accounting for 25% of all reported problems.
Both consumers and dealers report that these systems are the only component where quality is not improving. The study notes an average of 42.2 problems per 100 vehicles related to these components. While modern consumer electronics like smartphones and tablets generally function reliably, automotive manufacturers struggle to provide stable interfaces and reliable software despite significant investments in large screens and complex control systems.
