Dominican Republic technical institutions expand professional training and certification
Technical and higher education institutions in the Dominican Republic are implementing various programs to address labor market demands and talent gaps. The Instituto Politécnico Loyola (IPL) and the Instituto Especializado de Estudios Superiores Loyola (IEESL) recently graduated 491 new professionals and technicians, including 272 technical high school graduates and 219 engineers and technologists.
In other regions, the Instituto Nacional de Formación Técnico Profesional (INFOTEP) has launched several initiatives. In Bávaro, six training programs focusing on the tourism and service sectors—such as gastronomy, hotel reception, and refrigeration maintenance—have been opened. In Barahona, INFOTEP partnered with the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) to provide 45 training actions to 350 participants in areas like digital skills, entrepreneurship, and customer service.
Additionally, INFOTEP and the Superintendencia de Electricidad (SIE) collaborated in La Vega to certify the occupational competencies of 158 electricians from Coccia Dominicana and Dimelectro, SRL. Following this validation, the SIE issued professional licenses to 99 of these workers to ensure formal regulation and safety in electrical installations.
