Infraestruturas de Portugal announces road repair projects
Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) has announced significant investments to repair road infrastructure damaged by severe weather earlier this year in two different locations.
In Porto de Mós, a 2.1 million euro project will address 640 meters of the National Road 243 (EN 243) between Livramento and Zambujal de Alcaria. The works, which include constructing reinforced concrete walls and pile curtains, are expected to begin between late September and early October. The project has a 180-day execution period and will require a total road closure between kilometers 8.500 and 10.335, though access to adjacent buildings will be maintained.
In Penela, IP has awarded a contract worth approximately 2.75 million euros to Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções to repair the former IC3 highway. This project aims to restore the road platform and embankment between kilometers 13+500 and 14+300. The work is expected to last 240 days, with a projected reopening in the summer of 2027. To mitigate the impact of the total road closure, local authorities are working on a 4.5-kilometer detour via municipal roads EM 562 and EM 563.
