Infrastructure agencies launch road repairs in Delta State

Infrastructure agencies are conducting interventions to address the deteriorating state of federal highways in Nigeria’s South-South region. The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) recently inspected ongoing rehabilitation works in Delta State, focusing on key corridors such as the Kwale–Umutu Road, Asaba–Illah–Ebu Road, and sections of the Benin–Asaba–Onitsha dual carriageway. The agency aims to ensure these routes remain safe and accessible for the movement of goods, agricultural produce, and people.

Simultaneously, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has flagged off the reconstruction of 15.4 kilometers of failed sections on the Sapele-Benin Expressway. This move follows significant public hardship caused by road degradation, which has resulted in severe traffic gridlock and long travel delays for commuters traveling between Benin, Asaba, and Warri. While residents have noted improvements in some areas due to remedial works, calls remain for expanded maintenance on other critical routes like the Sapele-Warri and Amukpe-Abraka-Agbor roads.
