Infrastructure and border transit updates in Chile and Mexico

In Puerto Aysén, Chile, the Presidente Ibáñez Bridge will undergo a total vehicular closure for approximately eight months starting in December. The project involves structural conservation, including the installation of new main cables, anchorage blocks, and connection components. While vehicle traffic will be diverted to the Dun Bridge via routes 240 and X-550, pedestrian access will remain operational under safety protocols. A multisectoral contingency plan has been coordinated to manage public transport and emergency medical services.

In the border region of Acuña, Mexico, authorities are preparing for the potential resumption of live cattle exports to the United States, expected between late October and early November. Local officials have urged producers to comply with sanitary protocols, specifically regarding tuberculosis and brucellosis testing, to ensure readiness for the market reopening. This follows a gradual process by the U.S. to restore Mexican livestock imports after previous restrictions.

Additionally, the Del Rio-Ciudad Acuña International Bridge will experience a temporary suspension of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic on September 11. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) scheduled the interruption from approximately 07:00 to 08:00 to allow for a commemorative ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
