Infrastructure and legislative efforts address flooding in Honduras and Costa Rica

In Honduras, the Alcaldía Municipal del Distrito Central (AMDC), in collaboration with the KfW German Development Bank, has reached 90% completion on a drainage and paving project in the Nueva Providencia neighborhood of Comayagüela. The project, part of a Central American urban climate change adaptation program, involves an investment of over 9.1 million lempiras. Works include the installation of masonry gutters, street paving, and a 22-meter pedestrian bridge to improve mobility and provide evacuation routes during heavy rains.

In Costa Rica, Deputy Kattya Mora Montoya has proposed a bill to declare the management of the Los Negritos stream a matter of public interest. The legislation would require the municipalities of San José and Montes de Oca to split the costs of addressing flooding in Barrio Dent and Barrio Escalante. The proposal mandates the creation of an inter-municipal executive unit and sets a 36-month deadline for a definitive solution, with technical assistance potentially provided by the University of Costa Rica.
