Infrastructure and safety issues reported in Zapopan and Chorrillos

Residents in various Latin American regions are reporting significant infrastructure and safety issues. In Zapopan, Mexico, neighbors in the Nubes de Marte area have placed warning signs around an open manhole estimated to be between 6 and 8 meters deep to prevent accidents.

In Chorrillos, Peru, residents of the RTP, Villa Nicolasa, and Sub Lote 4 housing associations are protesting the prolonged stoppage of a road and sidewalk construction project. Although work began in January with a scheduled completion date in May, the project has only reached approximately 13% progress as of late August.

The local municipality stated that funding depends on the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation, which is reportedly seeking resources from the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The construction consortium has halted work due to a lack of payments. The delay has created mobility challenges for elderly residents and people with disabilities, while also causing health concerns due to dust and hindering waste collection services.
